Important Towing Safety Information
Reminders for towing your trailer safely.
Follow these towing guidelines to help ensure a safe towing experience for you and others on the highways.
· Always make sure the coupler is locked onto the ball.
· Always connect 12V connector and confirm that all road lights are operational. Connect Break-a-way kit. Check brakes and brake control. Always use the provided safety chain.
· Do not tow trailer with wheel skirts attached.
· Check lug bolts periodically and torque to recommended pounds.
· Check tires on regular basis to ensure they are inflated to recommended psi.
· Make certain awnings and doors are closed and locked.
General Maintenance
TIRES: Regularly check tire pressure and adjust to specified pressure as indicated on sidewall of tires. Check carefully for damage, cuts, or excessive wear.
LUG NUTS: When checking the tires, make sure no nuts are missing or loose. Tighten if necessary. Maintain the torque at recommended pounds. DO NOT tow the trailer with missing or loose nuts.
COUPLER AND HITCH BALL: Check the coupler to make sure that is locked onto the ball before each trailer towing. Lightly lubricate you hitch ball periodically.
HITCH: Examine your trailer hitch before and after each towing experience. If any parts are missing or broken they should be repaired or replaced with original brand and model replacements. Waymatic stocks most parts and can normally ship within the day or can advise what brands and part numbers interchange with the original equipment.
BRAKES: Electric brakes should be checked for adjustment prior to each tow and should be conditioned annually or more frequently depending upon the amount of miles incurred.
WHEELS: Trailer wheel bearings should be packed annually or more frequently depending upon the amount of miles incurred.
HINGES & LOCKS: All hinges and locks on trailer should be lubricated as necessary.
PLUMBING SYSTEMS: Water systems and drink equipment must be winterized using standard winterization products available from RV dealerships, if you store your trailer in areas where the temperature goes below freezing.
All repair parts and most maintenance items are available from Waymatic.
General Cleaning
It is the owner’s responsibility to make sure that the specified maintenance, as well as general maintenance, is performed.
As the trailer owner, you are the only one who can ensure that your trailer receives the proper maintenance care. Remember that you are a vital link in the maintenance chain.
During the normal day to day operation of your trailer, general maintenance should be performed regularly as prescribed below.
CLEANING EXTERIOR
The exterior and interior paint of your trailer is an automotive acrylic paint. Wash dirt off with a wet sponge and plenty of clean fresh water. Clean the trailer thoroughly using a mild soap or detergent (a special vehicle soap of general purpose dishwashing liquid) mixed with clean, lukewarm (never hot) water.
CAUTION
Do not use strong household soap, strong chemical detergents, gasoline, or solvents.
Rinse the trailer thoroughly with plenty of clean water.
Regular waxing protects the paint surface and helps retain new trailer appearance. After repeated waxing, polishing is recommended to remove built-up residue and to avoid a “weathered” appearance.
To protect your trailer from corrosion:
· Wash and wax your trailer often to keep it clean.
· Always check for minor damage to the paint and repair it as soon as possible.
· Check the underbody for accumulation of sand, dirt, or salt. If present, wash with water as soon as possible.
CLEANING INTERIOR SURFACES
Proper cleaning of the interior of your trailer is much like cleaning the kitchen of your home. Laminate counter tops and stainless steel counter tops should be cleaned with nonabrasive cleaners. Glass can be cleaned with any glass cleaning product and soft cloth or paper towels. All appliances should be cleaned with cleaning products designed for that particular appliance.
Cleaning of your exhaust hood and baffle filters should be performed after each event closing, of approximately each week. This varies according to usage. The most effective way to clean the baffle filters is by using a pressure washer or taking the removable filters to a coin operated manual carwash facility. The interior of the hood should be cleaned of grease before replacing the cleaned filters.
If your trailer is equipped with a painted steel treadplate floor or an aluminum treadplate floor, this floor should be washed out and dried after each event. The corner plates should be washed off and dried. To wash out the floor area of your trailer you can raise or lower the hitch jack so that the water will drain out the sweep through the door at either end of the trailer. Do not allow any water to stand in the drop floor area of your trailer or on the corner plates.
If your trailer is equipped with a vinyl over plywood, plywood over steel/aluminum floor, you should maintain the vinyl flooring according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. You should clean the corner plates as stated above or if vinyl covered, they too, should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
If your trailer is equipped with a wastewater holding tank, we recommend that you empty and rinse the tank thoroughly after each event, or approximately every seven days.
If your trailer is equipped with stainless steel sinks and you use a bleach type disinfectant for cleaning, you should not allow this solution to stand in your sink for extended periods of time. The sink should be thoroughly rinsed to remove all traces of bleaching products. Stainless steel sinks should only be scoured with stainless steel scouring pads or plastic type scouring pads.
Electrical
Your trailer has been properly wired, grounded, and tested before delivery. Do not alter or modify the electrical wiring in your trailer. Doing so will void any warranty. Should you desire changes or additions to your electrical system, please contact Waymatic.
To avoid possible electrical shock, make certain the trailer is connected to proper voltage. Repair of damage resulting from improper connections will not be the responsibility of Waymatic. Electrical input requires a proper size cord and plug to a properly grounded and protected source with the capacity for handling the electrical load of your trailer. Using an improper cord, plug, or receptacle may damage your equipment and void your warranty.
Your trailer requires a proper electrical grounding rod be in place prior to connecting to a power source. Grounding the trailer is for your personal safety and for the safety of your customers. It is the owner/operator’s responsibility to obtain the ground rod and make sure that it is in place during operation.
Your trailer should be properly secured and level when hooked to an electrical power source. You should make certain that all the breakers are in off position before connecting to a power source.
Reporting Safety Defects
If you believe that your vehicle has a defect, which could cause a crash or could cause injury or death, you should immediately inform the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in addition to notifying Waymatic, Inc.
If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order or recall and remedy campaign. However, NHTSA cannot become involved in individual problems between you, your dealer, or Waymatic, Inc.
To contact NHTSA, you may either call the Vehicle Safety Hotline toll free at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov. You can also obtain other information about motor vehicle safety from the hotline.
